Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 1 September 2026

These Terms govern your use of the Paya app and website, operated by Tulip Communications, a Nigerian-owned company based in Austria. By creating a Paya account or using any Paya service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Paya.

1. Who can use Paya

You must be at least 18 years old and provide accurate, complete and current information about yourself when registering.

Paya is designed for people connected to Nigeria — whether living in Nigeria or abroad. You may hold only one Paya account, and your account is personal to you.

2. Your account and security

You are responsible for keeping your password and transaction PIN confidential. Paya will never ask for your PIN by email, phone or chat, and you should never share it with anyone.

Tell us immediately at support@paya.ng or through in-app support if you suspect unauthorised access to your account. We may suspend an account while we investigate a possible compromise.

3. The Paya Wallet

Paya is a financial technology platform, not a bank. Your Paya wallet is a stored-value balance used to fund your payments. Wallet funding is made available through our licensed payment partners.

Your wallet balance is held for the purpose of making payments within the app. Balances do not earn interest.

4. Our services

Paya lets you buy airtime and data, pay electricity and TV bills, send money to Nigerian bank accounts, purchase exam PINs, fund your wallet and withdraw to a bank account.

Services and their availability may change. We will tell you about material changes in the app before they take effect.

5. Fees and pricing

We show you the amount, any fee and the total before you confirm a payment. Some service prices include a transparent markup over the underlying provider price; the total you see is always what you pay.

We may change fees going forward; changes apply to payments made after the change is announced in the app.

6. Authorising payments

Every payment requires your transaction PIN and is protected against accidental repeats. If you authorise a payment, you are responsible for it — including payments to a wrong recipient caused by details you entered or confirmed.

Payments to bank accounts show you the verified account name before you confirm. Always check it before sending.

7. Payment providers and processing

Paya works with licensed technology partners — including Monnify for wallet funding, Flutterwave for bank transfers and account verification, and Peyflex for airtime, data, electricity, TV and exam PIN fulfilment.

Most payments complete within seconds. Occasionally a biller or bank may take longer; a payment that is still processing keeps its status visible in your activity, and your money is held safely until it settles or is returned.

8. Failed, delayed and reversed payments

If a payment fails, the amount is released back to your wallet automatically. If a biller later reports a failure after a payment appeared successful, we will reverse it to your wallet and notify you.

For delayed or disputed payments, open a support ticket from the app or website — we will trace the transaction with the provider and respond within 24 hours.

9. Prohibited use

You must not use Paya for fraud, money laundering, financing of terrorism, sanctions evasion, pyramid or Ponzi schemes, gambling that is illegal under Nigerian law, or any other unlawful activity.

You must not attempt to interfere with the app, reverse-engineer it, or use another person’s account or identity. We report suspicious activity to the relevant Nigerian authorities.

10. Suspending or closing your account

We may limit, suspend or close your account if we suspect illegal activity, a breach of these Terms, a security risk, or as required by law or a regulator.

You may close your account at any time; first withdraw your wallet balance. Records of past transactions are kept as required by law.

11. Liability

Paya is provided with reasonable care, but we cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free service, and we are not liable for losses caused by events beyond our control (network outages, biller downtime, wrong details you confirmed, or third-party failures).

Our liability for a covered loss is limited to the amount of the affected payment. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Nigerian law.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as our services grow. The current version is always available in the app and on this website, with its “last updated” date. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept them.

13. Governing law and complaints

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If you have a complaint, contact us first at support@paya.ng or via in-app support so we can make it right.

If we cannot resolve a complaint, you may escalate to the Consumer Protection Council or the relevant dispute-resolution body under Nigerian law.
